Auxiliary nurse midwife, commonly known as ANM, is a village-level female health worker who is known as the first contact person between the community and the health services. ANMs are regarded as the grass-roots workers in the health organisational pyramid.

ANM ( Auxilary Nursing Midwifery)s usually do the following

1.To utilize the full skills of a midwife as laid down in the World Health‘s Organizations definition of a midwife to ensure individualized care for women and families.
2.To be responsible for the management of individualized care to a defined group of mothers and babies by using the assessing, planning and implementing and evaluating process within the multi-disciplinary framework.
3.Patterns of shift work will be required to enable a twenty-four hour service; this will also include on-calls.

A TSLC course Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery is available for post SLC student by CTEVT. This course will be completed within 18 months including 12 weeks of On-the-Job Training. For those who have not completed SLC and have test passed, they can access ANM pre-SLC. This course is of 19 months including 20 weeks of On-the-Job Training. In order to be selected for both the Post and Pre- SLC courses, candidates have to pass entrance exams set by CTEVT.
